Sulawesi shrimp 101 Q & A :
it’s a complicate to keep Sulawesi shrimp in a good condition, in these years, we’ve discovered a few fun facts about Sulawesi shrimp, and we would like to share them with you, most of the situation are relative, after all the water quality and climate varies a lot in different countries
Ｑ：你們的水質都怎麼調整的？ＴＤＳ是多少，ＰＨ．．．ＧＨ．．．ＫＨ？？
Ａ：以目前來說我們依舊主張軟水養殖，我們ＴＤＳ頂多就70 ~ 200
(查到的資料也表示出原產地大約就是這樣的TDS)
ＰＨ：只要高於７基本上都沒有問題，目前沒發現非要高鹼度不可
GH KH:基本上已經沒再驗，但按照經驗應該已經非常低
Q : what’s the parameter of the water?
A : in most cases, tds is around 70~200, ph = 7.5 ~ 8.5, below 7 is not good for the shrimp. GH and KH are 2~3 or so. If the water decrease, we recommend using soft water to refill the tank
Q:那我現在硬水養會死蝦嗎?
A:硬度是對水裡面碳酸鈣、碳酸鎂總量估算量的一種非黑即白的描述。我們也有用廣義硬水養活過，但硬水問題真的很多，加上水裡礦物質比例的相對問題，我沒辦法確定你的硬水可不可以，你只能試試看
Q : would it be okay if the concentration of calcium carbonate is too high in the water?
A : there is no specific evidence shows that it would hurt the shrimp directly, but we recommend keep the concentration as low as you can. Or you can try on your own
Ｑ：軟水怎麼調整
Ａ：ＲＯ水＋自來水（須完整除氯） ，比例要視地區水庫與各地水情水質調整，因為自來水的情況很多，真的要慢慢調整才能確定你家出來的自來水要配多少
ＲＯ水，但一般以高雄地區來說，普遍水質偏硬會建議4份ＲＯ配１份自來水．
Q : how to make soft water?
A : mix the RO water and fresh water on certain ratio. We cannot tell the exactly ratio since the combination of the mineral varies a lot in different countries
Ｑ：你們都用甚麼菌
Ａ：我們本身沒在使用，但有聽說我們的客戶原本好好的加了菌反而死掉。我們認為可能是賦形劑或其它成份添加物造成的。為減少變因，且非養活的必要條件，我們建議玩家自已斟酌。
Q : what kind of additional doses do I have to use?
A : we didn’t use any of existing doses and products in the water, the water quality and PH are the main point
Ｑ：底沙要怎麼選擇
Ａ：我們場內所有缸子都是裸缸，目的只是為了方便管理與出貨，您可以使用市面上中性或為鹼性的砂石，只要不是酸性，一般都沒問題，但切記要以ＲＯ水浸泡沖洗多次甚至數日以確保無其他物質殘留。(我們經常使用“亞馬遜河砂“)
Q : what kind of soil or sand do you use in the tank?
A : we didn’t use any sand or soil in the tank at all, since there may be un-known minerals dissolves in the water
Ｑ：要過濾或打氣嗎？
Ａ：建議使用水妖精作為過濾，方便保持水體澄清。蘇拉維西蝦屬於湖蝦，抗衝擊能力較差，不宜過大水流，其本身需氧量也極低，我們有測試過以一小截空氣打包後放置保麗龍箱內，一個月後開袋飼養皆無任何問題，即便打包沒有供氧或過濾，只要餵食習慣良好與定期少量換水，都可以很穩定的生長。
Q : does the shrimp needs filter or air pumping?
A : the Sulawesi shrimp is delicate since the original environment is in lake. We recommend sponge filter in the water. The amount of oxygen for the shrimp is low. As long as you change the water periodically and regular feeding, the shrimp can grow very fast
Ｑ：水溫要維持在幾度
Ａ：蘇拉維西蝦是熱帶蝦１５～３０攝氏度就可以了，一般只有在連續低於１５度數日才會有老蝦或本身體弱的蝦慢慢陣亡，北部遇到寒流時建議使用加溫器設置在２５度即可。另外分享一個有趣的經驗：曾經在10度寒流不加溫下，依然有存活的白襪個體。所以蘇蝦怕不怕冷見人見智。
Q : what’s the temperature for the shrimp?
A : the original environment is tropical, so the shrimp can endure higher temperature than other shrimp, but try to keep it lower than 30c would be better, and not below 15
Ｑ：蘇蝦是不是不太吃飼料
Ａ：蘇蝦只要水質狀況良好，蝦況良好，一般水晶蝦飼料都會吃，但他們因為食性的關係，不大會一直抱著飼料搶食，會以來回走動的方式吃，但如過該飼料泡水一天後基本上蘇蝦都不會吃了，建議撈除，我們自己是使用自製沉底飼料，餵食量會建議大約２０隻１顆小小的飼料就好，因為蛋白質飼料對他們來說可以只是補品，藻類大多是主食，在過多藻類的缸子中飼料的取食意願會稍稍降低。人工藻錠不太會吃。
Q : do I have to give a lot of food for the shrimp?
A : as long as the environment is good for Sulawesi shrimp, they can feed on most of the existing product for bee shrimps, but remember remove the food next day since they may start to decay. They also feed on algae as well. Observe you’re the feeding status of your shrimp and then give them proper amount of food is the best way
Ｑ：養蘇蝦都要爆藻或是長出棉花糖藻才可以嗎？
Ａ：依我們場內缸子經驗來看，爆藻的缸子蝦子狀況較不好，我們都要定期刷缸壁，只要微微薄薄的藻類在缸子裡附著就好，到看到綠綠的其實都有點多了。微量藻類也是水況良好的其中一個指標。
Q : do I have to cultivate a lot of algae in the tank?
A : the amount of algae that shrimp feed is not a lot, so try not to let the algae over growing in the tank

Ｑ：我養缸兩週了可以放蝦了嗎？
Ａ：只要確認水質是沒有問題的，我們都直接給他倒下去！沒有養缸，也沒再對水，下去如果有任何狀況(包括慢慢的死蝦)都是水質問題，跟有沒有養缸沒有直接關係。
Q : I’ve been adjusting the tank for 2 weeks, can I put the shrimp in the tank now?
A : as long as the water is suitable for the shrimp, you can put them in the tank even in the first day when you receive them, it depends on the water condition rather than how long you keep the water pumping, but the chloride is deadly for the shrimp
Ｑ：白襪蝦以外的蝦是不是都很難養
Ａ：白襪蝦之所以被當作入門蝦，很大原因是因為他量最多，體質上我們的經驗與其它大部份蘇蝦都是一樣的，至少場內這些品種都是以相同的水質條件繁殖飼養。
Q : is it hard to keep Sulawesi shrimps except white socks?
A : white sock is the most common Sulawesi shrimps due to the amount and easy to keep, other species such as wood stripe, gold eyes and blue bees is more sensitive to the water
Ｑ：缸子裡的蘇蝦有的有順利脫殼是表示沒問題了嗎？
Ａ：當缸子裡的蝦有任何問題時，常常會表現在脫殼不順上（脫殼不順並非單一原因）, 老蝦、病蝦、營養不良，都可以是脫殼失敗的主要對象。但是脫殼失敗的機率是隨著上述的原因而增加失敗率的，這代表雖然有問題，但不一定凡脫殼就會失敗，相對的，暫時的脫殼成功也不能代表完全順利。
Q : does it mean the water is good for the shrimp if I the shrimp is shelling?
A : the shrimp usually shells when it is in a new environment. It is also the moment that shrimp is at its most vulnerable moment. There are many reasons that can cause the casualties, it may take you longer to observe the condition of the shrimp
